"Mrs John Wise, living one mile west of Patoka, died very suddenly Monday evening. She ate her
supper as usual, and after putting the children to bed, she retired herself at an early hour. About 9
o'clock she awakened her husband and told him to go for assistance, that she was ill. He started for
some neighbors, but Before anyone arrived, his wife had died. Her death is attributed to heart disease.

December 1888, and died March 24, 1951 in Oakland City, Gibson, Indiana. She married ROSS FINIS FOLEY August 19, 1907 in Gibson, Indiana, son of JAMES FOLEY and AMELIA CARNAHAN. He was born August 29, 1887 in Indiana, and died  November 30, 1968 in Gibson, Indiana.

Mrs. Effie Jane Wise

Mrs. Effie Jane Wise, died at her home in Patoka at
6:25 o'clock Sunday morning. Death was caused by
infirmities of old age. She was 90 years, six months
and one day old. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 o,clock Tuesday
afternoon at the Methodist church, Patoka, in charge
of Rev. Donald Boyd. Burial will be in Patoka
cemetery.
She is survived by: seven grandchildren - Mrs. Edith
Taylor and Mrs. Effie Hunt, of Patoka; Mrs Hilda
Bishop, Muncie; Mrs. Grace McCauley, Florida; Leonard
and Ed Wright, of California; Mike Write, Canada;
George Write, Francisco, and Miss Gwen Wright,
Princeton; many nieces and nephews; ten
great-grandchildren, and countless other relatives and
friends.
Nine children preceded her death.
She was a member of the Campbellite church of Pike
county.
She was born in Ohio but spent most of her life in or near Patoka.
She was known by nearly everybody in and near Patoka
and each valued her highly as a friend.

Note: Joshua died 1882 and Effie never remarried. Ben and
Rachel's son Joseph lived with her after the death of
his sister Susan. His obit:

JOSEPH WISE
Joseph Wise died at his home in Patoka at 9 o'clock
this morning. He was 79 years of age. Funeral
arrangements have not been made.
A number of relatives survive. Grant Wise, of
Princeton is a nephew.
The deceased had been blind since he was seventeen
years old.

FUNERAL OF JOSEPH WISE
The funeral of Joseph Wise, of Patoka, will be held
tomorrow afternoon at the residence at Patoka. The
hour of the funeral had not been decided on this
afternoon at press hour, it was understood. Burial
will be in Patoka cemetery.

Susan, Joseph, and Abram lived in Pike and then moved
over to Gibson. Isabel Wise who married Robert
Beadles in Pike stayed in Pike. Mary Wise Racy and
Christopher Wise lived in Knox. Knox Co. is where
Rachel and the children first show up on the 1860
census. Effie is also living with Rachel 1860.

KILLED

Mrs. Rachel Wise, whose house was near Stendale, Pike
county, was killed at Oaktown, Tuesday. She was the
mother of Mr. Chris. Wise, of Oaktown, and had been
visiting him. She received a telegram notifying her
of the death of her son in Pike county, and attempted
to get on the north-bound Chicago express, Tuesday
morning. It is supposed that the train gave a sudden
jerk before she got into the car door, hurling her off
on the opposite side of the Train. It was so dark
that she was not seen by any body on the Oaktown
platform, but Conductor Mike Burke, who saw her go up
the steps, missed her when he went through the train
and telegraphed back to Oaktown inquiring about her. 
It was then that Mrs. Wise was found lying by the side
of a switch with a fractured skull, from the effects
of which she died Tuesday night. The coroner went up
to investigate yesterday, but will not return a
verdict till after he has taken the testimony of the
train men.
